Hop in the car and explore!
Start in Ballina, and make your way along the coastline to beautiful Belmullet, taking in the Céide Coast route from Killala to Belderrig. Marvel at the scenic views and make sure to take time to swing off the main road to snap a quick photo in the rain at locations like Rossport, Benwee Head and Annagh Head on your way.
From Ballina to Belmullet along the R314 is about 75km, but allow yourself some time for detours and photographs, and factor in a trip to Blacksod on the Erris peninsula too. Pack a picnic, or stop off at Teach Greannaí in Rossport for a snack.
Walk or cycle through the enchanting Belleek Woods
Europe’s largest urban woodland, feed the ducks and explore the trails one of the largest urban woodlands in Europe. This magical woodland is full of treasures – an old lime kiln, an ice house, lots of monuments and even a few graves, not to mention miles and miles of trails to explore. Keep an eye out for the fairies!
PS: When feeding the ducks, don’t give them bread – although they love it, it’s really bad for them! Try corn, lettuce and other greens (torn into pieces) defrosted frozen peas, Oats (rolled or instant) or seeds instead.
A number of service providers offer bike rentals in the area, such as Paddle and Pedal, Rachel’s Irish Adventures and Killala Bike Hire.
